Telangana No.1 in RUSA fund utilization

Utilization

The fund was used for construction of new buildings, renovation of old buildings and for providing equipment to laboratories, libraries, computer labs etc.. The amount was spent on 40 government colleges, including model degree colleges, across the State and Rs.20 crore was allocated to Osmania University.

The State has achieved the first position in the country in utilization of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) funds.

This was communicated by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development recently to the State government during a video conference with all the State Governments on the progress of the RUSA scheme.

According to officials of RUSA Centre-Hyderabad, fund utilization in some States was 2 to 3 three percent and in Andhra Pradesh, it was 24 per cent.

“The State could tap funds from the Central Government due to reforms introduced like Degree Online Services Telangana (DOST). No State in the country has introduced online admissions for undergraduate courses. Besides, the government introduced the Choice Based Credit System and also gender sensitivity at the undergraduate level,” said Dr. Soundarya, Project Officer, RUSA Centre, Hyderabad.

RUSA is a Government of India initiative in collaboration with State governments aiming at equity, access and excellence in higher education.
